2 Dads Publishing was founded by “2 dads” who met in their children’s Kindergarten class in 2008 when Zachary saw Sergio reading to the students. Sergio Liden is an author and has written 28 children’s books with ideas for many more “floating around” in his head. Zachary Zemby is the “brains” behind the company and comes from the corporate world. He joined Sergio because he was so moved by how Sergio’s books helped him better understand his own children.
With Sergio’s assistance, Zachary came to the realization that from a “family point of view” there was a difference between being a “dad” and a “father.” He concluded that “Dads” provide for the emotional and “lessons learned” support of their children while “fathers” provide for the financial and security and well-being of their family. Until then, Zachary was only a “father.”
Seeing that time with his children was a commodity he was no longer willing to give up, Zachary joined Sergio and created 2 Dads Publishing. Over a period of more than two years, mostly in coffee shops, the 2 Dads discussed creating a publishing company. But this company was going to be different. The 2 Dads dedicated themselves to not only putting out children’s books that would help children better understand their emotions and help parents better understand their role in their own life as well as their role in the life of their child, but a company that would help their community, country, and world. It was in those meetings that they decided to give a portion of each book printed to a charity that was topical to its book counterpart. They also decided to have the books sold in a particular country printed in that country to keep the jobs there instead of being outsourced.
Sergio is a “dad” of two children, and Zachary, once a “father”, has become a “dad” of three children.
Taking the importance of being “dads” to heart, the titles on their business cards are simply, “Dad.”
